Jim Schwartz Ain’t No Bro

The San Francisco 49ers gave the Detroit Lions their first loss of the season by beating them 25-19.  Niners coach Jim Harbaugh celebrated like he just on the NFC Championship game.  He was geeked up after taking a lousy 6-10 team from last with no real personnel upgraded to a 5-1 record and knocking off one of the league’s unbeaten teams.  He’s got a right to be excited.

When Harbaugh met up with Lions coach Jim Schwartz at midfield for the customary coaches handshake after the game, Harbaugh was still pumped up.  He grabbed Schwartz’s hand a little over zealously and gave him a solid thump on the back.

Schwartz took exception to the intensity of the shake and thump.  He chased down Harbaugh, yelling at him and causing a confrontation where players and referees had to separate the coaches.  Schwartz totally over-reacted to something that wasn’t intentionally done by Harbaugh to rub victory in his face.

Granted, he was dealing with his first loss of the season and probably wasn’t in the best mood, but Schwartz knows what its like to take over a failing franchise and trying to right the ship.  Schwartz has gone 2-14, 6-10, and now 5-1 so far as head coach of the Lions.  He knows the hard work, passion and intensity it takes to turn around a team.

Hey Schwartz, lighten up.  Harbaugh wasn’t attacking your manhood or bullying you.  Let the guy have his excitement.  Take your frustration of your loss into your office and find a way to beat the Falcons next week.

Yo Schwartz, you ain’t no bro!
