Aumont Outs Valle

wbc2013_logoOne of the sports highlights over the weekend was the 9th inning brawl between Team Canada and Team Mexico in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.  Team Canada was running up the score because tournament play uses run differential to break ties.  Team Mexico seemed to not understand the rules and thought Team Canada was running up the score just to be dicks. So, Mexico hit the next Team Canada batter, Rene Tosoni.  A brawl ensued.

valle_mask copyPhillies catcher Sebastian Valle threw one of the early shoves, against Tosoni, and was then in the middle of the melee. The problem with this was that Valle continued to wear his catcher’s mask during his confrontations.  Who knows whether he simply forgot to remove his mask or if he chose to keep it on in an attempt not to get hurt.  Either way, fighting in a baseball brawl with your catcher’s headgear on is a clear VIOLATION, similar to hockey players fighting with their visors on.

After the brawl ended and the game concluded, the drama with Phillies players carried on. This time on Twitter.  Pitcher Phillipe Aumont noticed Valle’s VIOLATION.  In doing so, he proceeded to commit a VIOLATION of his own.  He could’ve talked to Valle after the game.  But, he didn’t.  He called out Valle to Phillies fans via Twitter:

Maybe there’s a chance they aren’t friends, but they are part of the same organization.  Ya gotta keep that stuff in house. Or, tweet at Valle and bust his stones.  Tweeting out to Phillies fans? Weak.  This pains me to do this, because I love Aumont.  I love the way he pitches and believe that he will develop into a big 8th inning arm, maybe closer.  However, we gotta temporarily label Aumont “Not A Bro” for this weak Twitter display.

The good news is that Aumont deleted his tweet, which shows that he realized the tweet was inappropriate.  Unfortunately, we still have to do what we gotta do.

UPDATE: Some are reporting that Valle was actually swinging his mask at people. Yes, this is a more severe VIOLATION, but the calling him out on Twitter to Phillies fans still remains a VIOLATION if these reports are true..
