Memorial Day Weekend Roundup

Memorial Day is NOT Veteran’s Day.  My Facebook and Twitter feeds were full of people thanking members of the Armed Forces for their service this weekend in celebration of Memorial Day.  Gratitude to those special men and women who enlist in the armed forces is a good thing.  However, Memorial Day is a day to remember those who lost their lives while serving.  If you thanked your dad or grandfather for their service, just retweet or repost it for Veteran’s Day.

Finding any activities related to the remembrance of those who lost their lives while serving proved to be nearly impossible.  Every guide that I found which listed things to do for Memorial Day seemed to be about beach activities or the celebration of summer.  I stumbled onto services at the Vietnam War Memorial just because I live nearby.

Phillies Got No Hit.  Okay.  Move on.  They aren’t a great team.  Even if the Phillies were, no hitters even happen to good teams.  Edwin Jackson one-hit the Tampa Bay Rays in 2010.  The Rays won 96 games that year.  Getting no-hit isn’t a testament to how bad the Phillies are.  Their record, however, is.

Sporting News Ranked Ruben Amaro MLB’s Worst General Manager.  Tell us something Phillies fans haven’t known for a couple of years.

The LA Kings May Go To the Stanley Cup.  Totally surprising.  Blackhawks looked unstoppable early on and the Kings looked like they’d be a first-round departure against the Sharks.  Flyers fans being Kings fans because of ex-players playing there is completely annoying.  How many times we gonna hear about Richards, Carter and Williams scoring and the horrible trades? We get it.

I’m no Paul Holmgren fan as a GM.  However, Richards and Carter staying in Philadelphia wouldn’t have won shit.  They couldn’t handle pressure of playing in Philadelphia and Richards couldn’t handle the captaincy.  They went to a market where few care about hockey and to a team where they didn’t have to be the stars.  They were supposed to be the saviors in Philly and couldn’t handle that.  In Los Angeles, they just needed to complement Quick, Kopitar and Brown.

OTAs start!  Eagles, Chip, Foles, Football.  ‘Nuff said.

Rodney Hood is Coming to Workout for 76ers.  AMEN!  Would love Hood with the 10th selection in the NBA Draft.  He’s got good size at 6-8 and can play both guard and forward.  He’s got good range.  Shot 43% from 3pt.  Made 43% of his pull up jump shots, which puts him at the top of the best prospects.  He had a low turnover rate of 10%.  He doesn’t like to play defense  He takes some plays off defensive.  Brett Brown can fix that.

Saw Grand Budapest Hotel.  Wes Anderson’s style is getting old.  Movie was okay. Not bad, not great.  Worth a watch, but it’s time for Anderson to switch it up a bit.  Even the predictable cameo appearances is getting played out.
