Philly Weekend Picks: 9/18-9/20

Philly Weekend Picks are here. It’s a light weekend, basically because Sunday is Eagles/Cowboys and that should take up the entire day with pre-gaming and the game.

The PHILADELPHIA FRINGE FESTIVAL is in its final weekend, but there is still a nice selection of solid performances through Sunday. If you’re stuck for Friday or Saturday, definitely check out a show.

FRIDAY:

The pumpkin beer and coffee is everywhere already. So, you might as well get into the Fall mentality. Is there a better way than getting your Halloween vibe started? EASTERN STATE PENITENTIARY’S TERROR BEHIND THE WALLS starts its 25th season Friday night. More than 100,000 visitors visit the attraction each Halloween season and you might as well get in before the mad Halloween rush starts.  Tickets are $6 cheaper in advance. Check out the preview here.

SATURDAY:

PHILADELPHIA RECORD EXCHANGE 30th Anniversary Block Party! The Exchange is a fixture in Philly’s record/music scene. This is usually our go to spot for vinyls. The staff is incredibly knowledgable and always has good music playing. It’s amazing they’ve survived so long in the world of music with downloading dominating the industry. To celebrate, the Record Exchange is having a block party on Saturday out front of their store on the 1500 block of Frankford Avenue. There should be food and 10 bands are scheduled to perform. If you like music at all, stop by. The party runs noon to 11:00 p.m.

Frankford Hall and Fette Sau do OKTOBERFEST block party on Frankford Ave from Girard to Shackamaxon Street. You can hit this and the Record Exchange party at the same time! This runs from noon to 10:00 p.m. Great beers, brats, dogs, and other food are available. They also have live music, stuff for the kids (ponies), and more.

It’s Oktoberfest time. Brauhauz Schmitz hold their 7TH ANNUAL OKTOBERFEST STREET FESTIVAL on the 700 block of South street for an all day festival that runs noon to 8:00 p.m. Festival includes live Oompah band, Pig Roast, face painting, games, German dancers, Ceremonial keg tapping, Liter Lift Competition, plenty of German beer and so much more!

SUNDAY:

BRAZILLIAN DAY PHILADELPHIA 2015 happens Sunday at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing. Brazil has great food and steakhouses, soccer, music, and culture. This is the best way to spend the earlier part of Sunday, if you don’t have an Eagles house party or tailgate to attend. These celebrations are always family friendly and educational, as well as fun. Weather should be good. It’s always free to attend and pay as you go for food and activities. The festival goes from noon to 7:00 p.m.
