You read it correctly. A porch festival centered around DIY music acts is happening in West Philly Saturday June 4th from noon to 6:00 p.m.
What is a Porchfest? It’s exactly what it sounds like. You know how those beautiful large homes in West Philly have cool porches? Well, this is a music festival featuring bands performing on different porches throughout West Philly.
Some of the organizers of the West Philly Porchfest had encountered similar Fests while on tour and figured Philly, particularly West Philly, would be the perfect place to host a Porchfest.
Apparently, Porchfests have been happening since 2007. The first one happened in Ithaca, NY. Since then, Porchfests have been popping up throughout the country as a way for communities and diverse acts to come together for a day of celebration and appreciation of DIY musicians.
The Porchfest features genres the cover a wide gamut of musical acts including: experimental pop, punk, Americana, folk, classical, electronic, DJ, and more.
A sunny Spring day strolling through West Philly, seeing great bands, and maybe enjoy a cold beverage or two sounds like a perfect day. AND IT’S FREE!!
