MILKBOY GOES SOUTH

You know that spot with good food and music at 11th & Chestnut called Milkboy? Well, now there’s another one. The folks over at Milkboy have opened up another location at 4th & South where the old Lickety Split jawn that Bar Rescue’s John Taffer revamped used to reside.

The building got a much-needed overhaul. Milkboy’s signature garage doors, which open when weather permits, replaced a rather ordinary facade. The garage doors are a great look and they allow a good amount of natural light to fill the first floor during the day. At night, they provide the perfect vantage point for South Street people-watching.

The staff includes two Philly music legends Maxx (The Goats, Inconegro, Black Landlord, The Opposite Ends) and Bannon (Psyclone Rangers, Omegalord, Betty Whitetrash, Black Landlord, Custom Power Ride).

Food wise we grubbed on salsa & chips, wings, seasonal salad, and fries. All were solid. So solid that we devoured them before remembering to take a photo. The only comment may have been to add a vegan item or two for my plant-based friends.

We hear the second floor should have musicians regularly throughout the week.

They have a decent selection of canned beers and drafts. The beers are all local. On the cocktail side, I tried The Pharmacist. This might be my favorite drink in the city. Bourbon, honey, and pineapple juice, three of my favorite things in one drink. Yo, and it’s in a pint glass.

Milkboy is a welcomed addition to the South Street corridor between Front and 10th where there are far too many empty commercial spaces. Milkboy adds another reason to hit South Street along with Serpico, Brauhaus Schmitz, T-Mom’s, and other South Street standards.

One last thought, one more TV on the opposite end of the bar from the gorgeous big screen would make the place even better for sports viewing.

Check out the slideshow for more photos of our visit. Here’s to many years of success for the new Milkboy spot! Get there and have a beer!
