Eagles Had It Tough in 2016
Maybe Doug Pederson is on to something when he says that he thinks the Eagles are close, especially since they lost six games by a touchdown or less. I mean it’s not like they played the Miami Dolphins’ 2016 schedule and finished 7-9. The Dolphins, who had the league’s weakest strength of schedule against opponents who combined for a record of 88-119-3 and a winning percentage of .426, were embarrassed in the playoffs as the fraud’s they were. They were simply a bad team with the easiest schedule.
The Broncos ended up having the toughest schedule facing teams that combined for a 113-96-1 record and winning percentage of .540.
The Eagles had it tough. How tough? They had the 2nd toughest schedule in 2016. Eagles’ opponents combined for a record of 111-95-4 and a winning percentage of .538.
See, all is not horrendous. Carson Wentz put up respectable first year numbers vs. the 2nd toughest schedule in the league. We compared his stats with other quarterbacks 1st year stats here. Doug Pederson was a first year head coach, who had his bonehead moments (2 yard challenge for one), but he was one win away from .500 against a difficult schedule with a rookie QB. They finished 7-9 and were within a touchdown in 6 of those 9 losses. They were competitive.
Maybe they are closer than we think…after they get a couple WRs and DBs and a RB and O-Line depth, and a LB or two.
