Philly Has a Trash Issue

Nobody likes trash in their house or on their property. That’s a given. People in my area of the city hate it so much that they made a habit of bringing their household crash to the city’s corner receptacles. They did this so much that the Sanitation Department eventually removed most receptacles due to the overwhelming amounts of trash that would accumulate in the cans and on the sidewalks next to them.

I recently missed a trash day and my 642 square feet was at its absolute capacity for trash storage so I loaded up my Honda and drove it down to the sanitation collection center near 63rd & Passyunk Ave. This was a Monday.

As I pulled up to the sanitation center, I noticed a couple of workers loading up a trash truck with trash strewn on the grass outside of the center. I asked the workers about it. They say it’s a regular occurrence. They encounter piles like this every day after a day that the center is closed.

Come on Philly peeps. Wait a day to bring your trash to the dump. I know it’s a hassle, but don’t be a dirtball asshat. Not only is it disgusting, but it causes extra work for the people just trying to get through a day doing work most of us would never want to.. They have to manually load all of the trash that should be in a dumpster inside the center, which would be loaded into a larger container via machinery, and then they have to manually pick up all the debris that hits the ground due to stray animals ripping through the bags.

It’s always good to think about how your actions affect others. Try it. It makes the world a better place. It’ll make Philly a better place, even though it’s already great!
