Sixers Fans Now Must Trust the Collar!

I’ve fairly certain that I’ve seen Markelle Fultz play more than 99% of the Delaware Valley. When my partner goes to bed from October through March, I usually end up watching West Coast college hoops until 1 a.m. Most of the time I’ve placed a bet on the games. Last year, I bet quite often and successfully against Washington, probably between 10-12 games.

Do I think Markelle Fultz was the best player in this draft? No. Did he give me WOW moments like Lonzo Ball? Not really. Do I think he’ll be able to get to the rim at will like De’Aaron Fox? No. Did I see Fultz take a lackadaisical approach to defense and lose track of his man more than a few times? Yup.

That being said, I’m geeked for this coming season.

I bought into Sam Hinkie and have written numerous times about the courage I think Hinkie possessed by coming to Philadelphia and admitting he was going to lose like no one lost before and it was for the betterment of the franchise. And now, I’m buying into Bryan “The Collar” Colangelo.

Colangelo thinks Fultz is the best fit for Sixers and I’ll take him at his word.

Can the kid shoot? Yup. Does Fultz use his body to create shots instead of relying on a quickness that seemed to be lacking at times? Yes. Is he the perfect complement to Ben Simmons at the point? If Colangelo says so, then yes!

One of my greatest childhood memories is when I was eleven. The Sixers had won the Championship against the Showtime Lakers. Mo Cheeks DUNKED the ball with one second on the clock and a celebration ensued. We took turns imitating Cheeks’ final play and celebration the next day at the Juniata Park Boys N Girls Club, only we did layups instead of a dunk.

I, like the vast majority of the Delaware Valley, anxiously await another Sixers’ Championship. Even though it’s been a bad few years, the Sixers still have the 3rd most all-time wins in NBA history. It’s about time the franchise returns to the elite levels of the NBA.

We Trusted the Process. Now, it’s time to Trust the Collar.
