Stop With the Trade Okafor Nonsense

Facebook. Twitter. Sportstalk radio. They’re everywhere. The legions of lunatics who want to trade Jahlil Okafor for the #2 pick in the 2016 NBA draft or some other collection of picks. STOP IT! You sound ridiculous.

Jahlil Okafor only put up 17.5 points and 7 rebounds a game in his rookie season. He’s 20 years old. It’s well within reason to expect Jahlil to be averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds a game in a couple of years.

The Okafor-trade peeps seem to think you can just grab any player in the lottery and they’ll put up 18 and 7 a game. ┬áThese are probably the same people going off about Dante Exum, Nik Stauskas, Jabari Parker, and Aaron Gordon back in 2014 and D’Angelo Russell last year. None of those players are putting up 18 and 7. ZERO. NONE OF THEM.

Did you watch Sixers games? Okafor played with NBA junk surrounding him. He was constantly double-teamed without anyone to kick the ball to who was capable of consistently putting up points. Okafor’s numbers will no doubt improve once an additional offensive threat joins him on the floor for the Sixers.

Would these people trade NBA rookie of the year Karl-Anthony Towns for the #2 overall pick? He put up .8 more points a game and 3.4 more rebounds than Okafor. Towns didn’t average an entire point more than surrounded by Andrew Wiggins, Zach Lavine, and other NBA players. And, Towns isn’t a defensive stopper. He gets lost in the pick & rolls and Minnesota was third worst in defensive points in the lane.

Of course they do. But you don’t trade a young, given NBA commodity with offensive skills like Okafor for a draft pick. They’ll get a shooter. Maybe not this year. They aren’t a playoff team this year.

What’s the rush? Haste makes waste. Draft Simmons and play the season out. There’s a good chance they’ll have two more lottery picks next year with their own and the Lakers’ pick.

And, there’s free agency in a year or two to grab a shooter.

Did I fall asleep for two years and miss two healthy and productive seasons by Joel Embiid where he was putting up all-star like numbers? Dude hasn’t played one minute in the NBA and people are already inventing a problem that doesn’t yet exist in Philly…too many centers.

Yeah, you know why? Because there aren’t really any good centers in the NBA outside of Anthony Davis. It’s a guard game by default.

Relax, dude got into a scuffle and got a speeding ticket. Hard to find many 20 year olds who wouldn’t speed in a high-end sports car.

Stop with insanity. Yes, Okafor can improve defensively, but trading him for an unknown at this point is bonkers. Embiid hasn’t even played a full season. And, the Sixers haven’t seen if Okafor and Embiid can or cannot play on the floor together. Until that happens, knock it off.

OBTW, If Okafor was in the draft this year, he’d be the #2 pick overall ahead of Ingram. Think about that.

If the Sixers are going to trade anyone, it should be Noel with some picks. Noel ain’t getting any better. Okafor can and will.

Stop with the trading Okafor talk. You sound ridiculous.
