Philly Just Got Better: Parks On Tap

parksontapYo, Philly…a few years ago Spruce Street Harbor Park appeared on the Delaware Waterfront. The city’s summer’s ain’t been the same since. We now have a place to go any night of the week that you crave a festive, friendly, boardwalk-like atmosphere with a beer, great view and cool breeze.

PAY ATTENTION: We’re gonna tell you about similarly great addition to the Philly Summer Scene. It’s PARKS ON TAP.

Here’s the idea behind Parks on Tap. The group has teamed up with Philadelphia’s Parks and Recreation, Fairmount Park Conservancy and FCM Hospitality to bring a traveling beer garden from public Philly park to public Philly park for 14 weeks.

That’s right…beer gardens in Philly parks. And, it’s not just beer they’re bringing. They have games for the family, live music, outdoor yoga (pay what you can) from the folks at Maha Yoga Studio every Saturday at noon, and it’s dog friendly!

Parks on Taps runs Friday and Saturday 1 pm – 11 pm, Sunday noon – 10 pm. Certain locations allow the garden to run Wednesday and Thursday from 5 pm – 10 pm.

I ventured to last week’s weekend at the Shofuso Japanese House and Garden. It was no doubt a great time. The beer selection was solid along with a great cocktail selection and the food will exceed your expectations for a pop-up beer garden.

This is a dream for families with younger kids. Dozens of parents sipped beers, smiling, while their children were content playing in the park. It’s a win/win situation. The have plenty of seating that includes hammocks and Adirondack chairs.

This weekend Parks on Taps hits the Belmont Plateau. Here’s a look at the rest of the schedule:

Jul 20 – Aviator Park
Jul 27 – Clark Park
Aug 3 – Jefferson Square Park
Aug 12 – Playing Angels
Aug 19 – Penn Treaty Park
Aug 26 – Franklin’s Paine Skatepark
Sep 1 – FDR Park
Sep 7 – Fairmount Water Works
Sep 16 – Mt. Pleasant Mansion

Get out and take advantage of this great Philly weekend addition. You will not regret it.
