Dear Ben Simmons: I Can Help Your Foot Heal

Dear Ben Simmons:

I understand the frustration of a broken bone not healing as expected. Almost 12 years ago, my cab in Northern Liberties was T-boned by a car going a high rate of speed. We flipped and required the jaws of life to pry me and the Mrs. from the vehicle. I didn’t wear seatbelts back then. I suffered a laundry list of injuries including a broken neck.

The fine folks at Rothman strapped me into a collar and advised that I’d be healed in 12 weeks. At the 6 or 8 week check-in all was fine. At 12 weeks, x-rays and scans indicated that my bone had not fully fused. I was scheduled for a surgery in eight weeks. That was my doctor’s earliest opening.

I asked for other options. He sent me home with a bone stimulator, but offered little optimism. I was told there was no healing going on, that the fracture looked like an old fracture at this point, and even if the stimulator started to work that it would take far more than eight weeks to heal my neck.

In the eight weeks leading up to my surgery, I avoided foods that robbed bones of calcium (sugar, coffee, etc), did a daily guided imagery exercise provided by one of the world’s leading experts in guided imagery, and received reiki twice a week.

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing method. There is not bodily manipulations, just a gentle laying of the hands. In my case, the hands rested on the outside of my hard, plastic neck collar.

I returned for another round of x-rays and scan in 7 weeks. The next day my surgery was cancelled. My bone had healed, fused.

I’m not saying the doctors you’re working with aren’t good. I’m just saying they may not know of these other complimentary medicine options and their effectiveness with broken bones. Mine did not and he was a leading authority in cervical spine fractures.

Now, all reiki healers aren’t the same. Mine happens to be the best in town. The same goes with guided imagery exercises. If you do either, make sure they are both reputable.

You can help your own healing instead of waiting for traditional medicine to take place. I did. These aren’t replacements. They are complimentary. Reiki is offered in hospitals and operating rooms throughout the world. My own Mrs. went on to become a reiki master has great results working with animals where there is no placebo effect.

Learn from my story. We need that foot healed. And, hey, reiki is pretty damn relaxing if nothing else. If ya need some guidance hit me up on twitter @ViolationsGreg.

Good luck, man.
